September 29, 2009 NZLGA Oil Awards The oil judging is facilitated by a group of selected sensory judges who appraise blind samples submitted by the growers. The results of their respective assessments are tabulated with the results of all judges results from each oil being merged for the final score. All judges ultimately test all oils independently. The awarding of Gold or Silver status to an oil is by mathematical result from the sensory testing; should no oils pass the minimum score for each category no award is given. As growing conditions vary from year to year so do the number of Gold and Silver awards. May 7, 2009 Planning for the Bi-annual conference in August on the Kapiti Coast is well under way, with four guest speakers - all very passionate people - confirmed. The committee felt that it is always hard to make choices for workshops, so the sessions will be for everyone apart from the Saturday optional where you do have a choice. Theme: Passionate Persistence The passion is definitely there along with the persistence of getting things done, so that all who attend the conference will feel enthused, encouraged, and excited with their passion and persistence with Lavender. The programme is now finalised, covering a range of topics with excellent speakers, demonstrations and displays. The conference committee is looking for the support of all members and interested people attending the conference which is planned to be affordable, enjoyable and memorable. A detailed programme will be in the Autumn issue of the Lavender Link. Speakers presenting papers

The Judging/appraising system developed by growers in Marlborough for the New Zealand lavender Growers Association has gained interest from grower groups and consumers outside New Zealand. The Annual Oil Awards are seen by the Association as a fundamental process to the consistent production of oils of the finest quality and attraction. I am delighted to provide the following; this year (2008) produced outstanding oils.
